Who We Are

Intersect, Inc. is a coalition of community members representing schools, health care, faith-based organizations, and businesses that formed in 2002 to address tobacco issues within Madison County, Indiana.  Funding for this coalition originated from funds through the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between the tobacco companies and 48 states.  After several years, the coalition began to see the need to expand the focus to include alcohol and other drug prevention.  The coalition obtained its not-for-profit status in 2004 and became incorporated in 2005.  Currently, the coalition operates from two major grants, the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency (ITPC) and the Federal Drug Free Communities Grant.

Funding has also been received from local partners including:

  • St. Vincent Anderson Regional

  • Indiana Department of Mental Health

  • Community Hospital Anderson

  • Anderson Noon Kiwanis

  • Madison County Youth Leadership Academy

  • The City of Anderson/Madison County Community Foundation through the Quality of Life Award

The coalition works with many sectors of the community to decrease substance use among youth and adults in Madison County through many strategies, including:

  • Working with employers on implementing voluntary smoke free air policies and providing cessation services and benefits

  • Educating policy makers on secondhand smoke policies

  • Working with physicians, dentists, and other health care providers to implement the PHHS Guidelines for Cessation to patients

  • Promoting 1-800-QUITNOW, the free state-wide quitline for tobacco users wanting to quit
